The Banco do Brasil's 1923 series was printed by the American Bank Note Company at a moment when the Brazilian milréis was under serious pressure — coffee price volatility and postwar debt servicing had severely strained the country's foreign reserves throughout the early 1920s. ABNC held a long-running contract with Banco do Brasil across this period, and the New York presswork on this series is characteristically tight.
The "1st Print" designation matters here: subsequent print runs of P#118 show minor plate differences and serial number format changes that collectors use to distinguish them. First-print examples tend to appear less frequently in high-grade survivors.
