Obverse description The centre of the note is dominated by a large diamond-shaped vignette divided into two scenes: on the right, Saint Reinold is shown as a haloed figure holding a trowel and bricks in the act of constructing a church, while on the left three monks labour at a building site with a funeral procession visible in the background. Two large circular medallions flanking the central vignette carry the denomination numeral '50 M' in bold green letterpress. The title 'Fünfzig Mark' is rendered in decorative Gothic script across the top, with the legend 'REINOLD DER KIRCHENBAUER' arching around the upper border of the diamond; the issue date 'DORTMUND, AM 10. OKTOBER 1922' appears in a banner below the vignette, followed by two manuscript signatures and an official embossed seal of the Magistrat der Stadt Dortmund.

Reverse description The reverse is organised around a central rectangular vignette, set against a dark background, showing a man and a woman seated at the foot of a large tree in a tender, intimate pose, with a rural landscape and a thatched cottage visible behind them; the artist's name 'LANDWEHRMANN' is inscribed at lower right of the vignette. Two large circular medallions to the left and right carry stylised decorative monograms in green. Flowing ribbon banners in dark ink curve across all four corners of the note, each carrying verses of German poetry in Gothic script, and the printer's imprint 'West-Werbe-Dienst-Dortmund.' appears at the foot of the note.
