Issued to mark the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of Vilnius, recorded in a 1261 letter from Grand Master of the Teutonic Order Anno von Sangershausen. The documentary reference predates the more commonly cited 1323 founding letter of Grand Duke Gediminas by over sixty years, a distinction the Bank of Lithuania clearly considered worth commemorating in silver.
