Obverse description The papal coat of arms of Pope Paul VI occupies the central field, depicting a pointed shield charged with three fleurs-de-lis above and an open book (representing the Ambrosian library) below, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter with their tasselled cords. The engraver's signature T. GISMONDI appears at the base of the design. The circular legend reads PAVLVS VI P.M. A. XIV MCMLXX, with small star-shaped ornaments serving as separators between the elements.
