| Obverse description | Facing bust of Pope John Paul II in pontifical vestments, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The papal effigy occupies the central field, with the subject depicted slightly turned and gazing forward. The circular legend arcs around the upper and lower periphery of the coin, reading IOANNES PAVLVS II P.MAX V MCMXCIII, identifying the pontiff by his regnal name, title of Supreme Pontiff, and the fifteenth year of his reign. The design is the work of engraver Guido Veroi. |
