The outer annular ring incorporates five symbolic motifs drawn from earlier Italian Republic coinage, arranged clockwise from the mintmark: a bunch of grapes (referencing the 5 Lire, KM#89), a laurel branch (100 Lire, KM#96), an oak branch (20 Lire, KM#97), a cornucopia (1 Lira, KM#91), and a toothed cogwheel (200 Lire, KM#105).
