Obverse description Central shield bearing the cross of Genoa, surmounted by an ornate ducal crown, supported on either side by two spread-winged griffins rendered in high Baroque relief. The composition is bold and sculptural, with the supporters' bodies turned inward flanking the cartouche-style escutcheon. The circular Latin legend reads DUX • ET • GUB REIP • GENU • (Duke and Governors of the Republic of Genoa), running along the coin's periphery.
