Additional information

Introduced after the fall of the military junta and Greece's return to parliamentary democracy in 1974, this series reflects the recoinage program that accompanied the restored republic's effort to stabilize everyday commerce. The nickel-brass alloy was a practical concession to rising metal costs that had made earlier silver-content fractions economically unworkable by the mid-1970s.
