Additional information

Issued to mark the 600th anniversary of Țigănești Monastery, one of the oldest surviving Orthodox monastic communities in Moldova, founded according to tradition in 1420. The monastery sits in Strășeni District and remains an active convent today — unusual for institutions that suffered systematic closure and repurposing under Soviet administration. That survival, partial though it was, gives this commemorative an institutional anchor that many post-Soviet issues lack.

Moldova's commemorative silver program of the late 1990s and early 2000s leaned heavily on ecclesiastical subjects, partly as a cultural reassertion following decades of state atheism.
