Issued in 2020 to mark Moldova's healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is one of several commemorative programs launched by post-Soviet central banks that year specifically in response to the crisis. Moldova's public health system, severely underfunded since independence and heavily dependent on remittances from the diaspora to keep rural clinics operational, made the gesture pointed rather than ceremonial.
