Additional information

Mărțișorul is a Romanian and Moldovan spring custom observed on March 1st, in which small red-and-white talismans are exchanged as tokens of good fortune — the tradition predates Christianity in the region and has roots traced to Dacian and Roman calendar practices. Moldova submitted the custom for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage inscription, which was granted in 2017, three years after this coin appeared.
