Additional information

Igor Vieru (1923–1988) was one of Soviet Moldova's most celebrated painters, known for lyrical depictions of rural Moldovan life that quietly asserted a distinct national identity at a time when such expression was politically fraught. This coin was issued to mark the centenary of his birth.
