| Obverse description | The obverse presents the Romanian state coat of arms — a quartered shield featuring the eagle, displayed within an incuse triangular frame set centrally in the field. The country name ROMANIA arcs around the upper portion of the triangular flan, with the letters arranged following the curved contour of the Reuleaux triangle shape. The denomination 50 LEI appears in large bold letters along the lower edge of the flan, while the date 2002 is inscribed beneath the coat of arms within the triangular device. |

This is a pattern piece — never approved for circulation — produced as part of Romania's extended internal deliberations over a new circulating coinage series in the early 2000s. The National Bank ultimately rejected brass in favor of other alloy configurations, and Stamb#P563.1 represents one of several competing trial specifications tested during that period. Surviving examples exist almost exclusively in institutional or specialist collections.
