Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Mehmed V, executed in fine relief against a plain field. The tughra is flanked to the right by the honorific epithet 'el-Ghazi' (the Warrior for the Faith) in Arabic script. A symmetrical olive wreath frames the lower portion of the design, its branches tied at the base, with the regnal year numeral appearing in Arabic-Eastern numerals beneath the tughra. Seven six-pointed stars adorn the upper periphery, and the coin's edge is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
