Additional information

Turkey's currency underwent a redenomination in 2005, dropping six zeros from the lira after chronic inflation had rendered smaller denominations arithmetically absurd — a single US dollar had briefly exchanged for over 1.6 million old lira. The kuruş, extinct in practice for decades, was reintroduced at that point as a functioning subdivision. These 2023–2024 issues follow continued inflationary pressure that has repeatedly forced the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey into policy interventions, though the kuruş has so far survived as a circulating denomination.
