Bradbury Wilkinson printed this series for Landsbanki Íslands across more than a decade, a stretch that covered wartime occupation — British and later American forces were stationed in Iceland from 1940 onward, and domestic currency demand increased sharply as a result. Jón Thorleifsson's involvement as designer is unusual for the period; Icelandic notes of this era were typically designed entirely by the English printer's own studio.
The violet colorway distinguishes this from the earlier brown-toned 50 Krónur issues and was retained throughout the print run without significant plate modification.
