The Faroese króna is not an independent currency — it is a Dano-Faroese arrangement in which locally issued notes and coins circulate at parity with the Danish krone but are not legal tender in Denmark itself. The 2011 trimetallic 50 króna belongs to a series issued under this ambiguous monetary status, which dates to the post-occupation period after World War II when the islands briefly raised their own flag and pushed for greater autonomy.
