Obverse description The obverse features the four mythological guardian spirits of Iceland, the Landvættir, rendered in relief. Each spirit occupies a quadrant of the field: Griðungur the bull in the lower left, Gammur the great eagle in the upper left, Dreki the dragon in the upper right, and Bergrisi the rock giant in the lower right. The legend 'FIMMTÍU KRÓNUR' arcs along the upper periphery, with 'ÍSLAND' and the date appearing below. The design is executed in a bold, stylised manner drawing on traditional Icelandic heraldic imagery.

Reverse description The reverse displays a boldly rendered effigy of a shore crab (Carcinus maenas) viewed from above and occupying the upper portion of the field, with fine detail shown in the carapace, claws, and legs. Beneath the crab, the large numeral '50' is struck in prominent relief, with the abbreviated denomination 'KR' inscribed below in the lower field. The overall composition is centred and symmetrical, with the denomination elements clearly legible against the flat field.
