The "Famous Men and Women" series, introduced in 1997, was Danmarks Nationalbank's first fully redesigned series since the 1970s and the first Danish series to explicitly feature women alongside men on circulating notes. The 50 Kroner was the lowest denomination in the series, and as a result it bore the heaviest circulation burden — high-frequency use means worn examples vastly outnumber clean ones in the secondary market.
The in-house printing works on Havnegade had produced Danish notes since 1818; this series was among its final decades of output before the facility closed in 2016.
