Bjørnstjerne Martinius Bjørnson (1832 - 1910) a Norwegian writer who received the 1903 Nobel Prize in Literature. Also contributed lyrics to the Norwegian National Anthem, `Ja, vi elsker dette landet`. Coat of arms at centre. A lion rampant bearing an axe which was a symbol of Saint Olaf, i.e. King Olaf II, symbolising that the King was the rightful heir and descendant of the `Eternal King of Norway` (Latin: Rex Perpetuus Norvegiae). On the left is Borgund Stave Church - classified as a triple nave stave church of the so-called Sogn-type. One of the best preserved of Norway`s 28 extant stave churches.
