| Obverse description | The obverse is centred on an intaglio vignette of the Utvær Lighthouse rendered in shades of green against a pale multicolour guilloche underprint evoking sea and sky. The denomination numeral '50' appears in large format at upper left and lower right, with the inscription 'FEMTI KRONER' along the top and 'NORGES BANK' at lower left; a small puffin vignette occupies the upper right. An optically variable colour-shifting ink element is incorporated at lower left. |

Norway's eighth banknote series, which entered circulation from 2017 onward, was designed around a coastal and maritime theme — a deliberate national identity choice made after an open design competition won by Snøhetta and Metric Design. The 50 kroner denomination was the first of the new series to be released, in October 2017, making it the public's initial introduction to what became a widely discussed redesign.
The reverse side of the series employs a pixelated abstraction rather than literal imagery — an approach unusual enough to attract international design commentary at the time of issue. Printed by Norges Bank's own facility at Norges Bank Note Printing Works in Kongsberg.
