Comments

The convertible marka was introduced in 1998 under the terms of the Dayton Agreement, pegged at parity to the Deutsche Mark and, after 2002, to the euro at the inherited DM rate. The currency was a deliberate instrument of economic stabilization, administered by a currency board with no discretionary monetary policy — the central bank legally could not print money beyond its hard currency reserves.

Oberthur's Rennes facility handled production throughout this series. The note was withdrawn from circulation as the 1998–2002 dated issues were replaced by the redesigned 2002 series.
