Laos issued a wave of foreign-currency-targeted commemoratives in the late 1980s, struck almost entirely for export through Western coin dealers rather than domestic circulation. The country had no meaningful numismatic market of its own at the time — this piece was a hard-currency earner, plain and simple. KM#35.2 distinguishes itself from the .925 sibling variety (KM#35.1) by its .999 fine silver composition, a specification aimed at bullion-oriented collectors willing to pay a modest premium.
