Laos issued a series of silver commemoratives throughout the late 1980s bearing the names of European states — a deliberate hard-currency earning strategy by the Lao PDR government, which had little domestic collector base and was targeting Western and Asian numismatic markets almost exclusively. These pieces were struck for export, rarely if ever circulating within Laos itself.
The "Prussia" designation places this coin within a political entity that had ceased to exist by Allied decree in 1947, when the Allied Control Council formally dissolved the Free State of Prussia under Law No. 46.
