Obverse description Central vignette of the Independence Gate (Dongnimmun) in Seoul, erected in 1897, rendered in fine intaglio engraving against a lightly patterned underprint. The denomination numeral '50' appears in an ornate guilloche cartouche to the right, flanked by intricate geometric border panels. Korean and Western-script inscriptions identifying the Bank of Korea and the denomination are arranged above and below the central vignette.
Obverse lettering 韓國銀行券 五拾圜 韓國銀行 오십환 FIFTY HWAN
(Translation: Korean banknote, Fifty Hwan, The Bank of Korea)
Reverse description Central full-length intaglio vignette of Admiral Yi Sun-sin standing on a radiating sunburst background within an arched frame, set against fine guilloche underprint in green tones. To the right, an oval cartouche contains a vignette of a Turtle ship (Geobukseon) at sea. The denomination '50' appears in numerals to either side of the central figure, with the issuer name and denomination in Western script along the top and bottom borders.
