| Reverse description | The reverse is divided into two distinct zones, symbolizing the poet's turbulent destiny: the upper portion presents a polished, mirror-like flat field, while the lower zone is rendered in high relief. Arranged in a circular formation spanning both zones, a series of Taras Shevchenko's self-portraits illustrates successive periods of his life and artistic development. At the center of the smooth upper field, lines from the poem 'Destiny' are engraved: ДОЛЯ / …МИ НЕ ЛУКАВИЛИ З ТОБОЮ, / МИ ПРОСТО ЙШЛИ; У НАС НЕМА / ЗЕРНА НЕПРАВДИ ЗА СОБОЮ (Destiny / …we have not been sly, you and me / we simply walked; we have not / a granule of falsehood after us). In the lower relief zone, the inscription ТАРАС / ШЕВЧЕНКО (Taras / Shevchenko) appears prominently, with the dates of his life 1814–1861 positioned to the left. |
