Ybbsitz is a small market town in Lower Austria with an unusually deep ironworking history — the region supplied iron goods across Central Europe for centuries. This 50 Heller notgeld was issued in 1920 as part of Austria's massive small-change crisis following the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Hundreds of municipalities issued their own emergency currency during this period, and many were printed speculatively for collector sale rather than genuine circulation need.
The Jaksc reference JPR1260-50 places it firmly in the documented Austrian notgeld corpus, but Ybbsitz issues remain among the less-chased in the series.
