Comments

Austrian municipal notgeld of this period exists in enormous quantities, but the Weissenbach bei Mödling issues are among the more obscure — the village sits in the Helenental valley southwest of Baden bei Wien, small enough that its emergency coinage circulated within an extremely limited radius. The 1920 date places this squarely in the second wave of Austrian notgeld, issued after the postwar coin shortage had already stretched into years rather than months.

Three signatories authenticated this note: the Bürgermeister Illich, Vize-Bürgermeister Hochkogler, and a Gemeinderat member named Klein — the full municipal council weight thrown behind what was essentially a local IOU. Designer R. Wild is otherwise untraced in the major notgeld literature.
