Comments

One of hundreds of Notgeld issues flooding the Austrian market in the early 1920s, this 50 Heller from Spitz an der Donau belongs to the Wachau regional series — notes consciously designed as collectibles from the outset. The Wachau issues were among the more artistically ambitious of the Austrian municipal Notgeld, with local authorities commissioning recognizable artists rather than defaulting to stock designs. Tomschik, based in nearby Krems, gave the series a regional coherence that made it immediately attractive to the Sammlernotgeld trade.

Eduard Sieger in Vienna was a frequent printer for these small-denomination municipal issues. The JPR1122 series runs across multiple color variants and sub-types — the "IIc" designation here marks a specific plate or printing state within that sequence.
