One of hundreds of Notgeld issues that flooded rural Austria in the postwar years, this Wachau series note from Spitz an der Donau was printed by Conrad Sieger in nearby Krems — a local press serving local need, which gives the production a coherence unusual among emergency issues that often went abroad for printing. The designer credit reading "Prof. G. Tomschik" points to Gustav Tomschik, a Viennese artist associated with decorative work of the period, though his involvement in provincial Notgeld commissions was not uncommon.

The Jaksch/Pick reference JJPR1122.06IId places this firmly in the documented Wachau collector series — notes that were issued as much for philatelic sale as for actual small-change use, a common dual purpose by 1920.
