This is one of the Wachau Notgeld issues — emergency municipal currency produced by small Austrian market towns during the severe coin shortage that persisted well into the early 1920s. Spitz an der Donau commissioned local designer Rud. Weber rather than defaulting to a generic commercial art studio, which gives the series a distinctly regional character unusual even among the notoriously individualistic Austrian Kleingeldersatz issues.
Eduard Simons of Vienna handled the printing. The Jaksc/Pick reference suffix "IIc" indicates this is a recognized variety within the series, suggesting multiple printings or paper distinctions were recorded by catalogers.
