Reverse description The central field carries a decorative cartouche in Gothic script reading 'Gutschein Gemeinde Utzenaich', set against a sunburst guilloche underprint within a fine guilloche border with repeating floral and geometric ornaments. Flanking text columns provide the issuing authority details and authorised total issue amount in Kronen on the left, with the validity period and statutory anti-counterfeiting warning on the right. A banner at the foot of the note bears the date 'Gültig bis 31. Dezember 1920', with the Bürgermeister's signature designation printed below the main text block.

Comments

Utzenaich is a small rural commune in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the postwar coin shortage that left even village-level commerce unable to make change. The communes were legally empowered to issue their own emergency small denominations, and thousands did.

The Jaksc/Pick reference JPR1107-50 places this firmly in the documented Austrian Notgeld corpus, though Utzenaich issues are among the more obscure rural emissions and turn up infrequently in trade.
