Comments

Taufkirchen an der Pram is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left chronic small-change shortages across the country. Emil Prietzel operated a printing business in Steyr — a regional industrial center — and handled a number of these local emergency issues for surrounding communities during 1920.

Steyr-printed Notgeld of this period tends to show competent but plainly commercial production, without the artistic ambitions of the collector-targeted "Serienscheine" flooding the market from Vienna at the same time.
