Obverse description The central vignette presents a detailed line-art view of a medieval tower and rooftops of Stein an der Donau, signed by the artist L. Kingel at lower left, flanked on each side by decorative vine and grape motifs in the upper corners. The denomination '50' appears in large script numerals at lower left and lower right, each accompanied by the word 'Heller' in Gothic lettering. Below the vignette, the issuing legend 'Notgeld der Stadt Stein a. d. D.' is printed in bold Gothic script, followed by a liability clause and the date 'Stein a. d. D. am 9. April 1920' with three handwritten official signatures.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in black on plain paper and consists entirely of text within a ruled rectangular border. The heading 'Kassenschein der Stadtgemeinde Stein a. D. über 50 Heller.' is set in bold Gothic type, followed by a paragraph in Fraktur script explaining the issuance of interest-free cash notes totalling 100,000 Kronen to alleviate the small-change shortage, and specifying the redemption period of 16–30 September 1920 at the municipal treasury. At the foot, the denomination 'Fünfzig Heller.' is printed in large decorative Gothic script, with the printer's imprint 'F. Faber, Krems.' centred beneath it.
