Austrian Notgeld from the postwar inflation period, issued by the volunteer fire brigade of Osternach — a hamlet near Ort im Innkreis in Upper Austria. Municipal and civic bodies of almost any description issued their own emergency small change during 1919–1921, when coin simply vanished from everyday commerce, and fire brigades were no exception. Three manuscript signatures authenticate each note individually: the deputy commander, the brigade leader, and the treasurer.
