Molln is a small market town in Upper Austria's Steyrtal, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities after the First World War, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metal coinage from circulation. The 50 Heller denomination sat at the practical centre of everyday transactions, the kind of note passed across a counter for bread or postage.

The print date of 30 April 1945 in this catalog entry almost certainly reflects a later administrative recording date rather than an original 1920 press run — the Heller was abolished in 1924, making a 1945 printing physically impossible.
