Landfriedstetten is a small settlement in Lower Austria, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1920 places this squarely within the Austrian municipal emergency currency wave that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. With central monetary supply erratic and coin almost entirely absent from village-level commerce, hundreds of Austrian Gemeinden printed their own small-denomination notes — legal in a practical sense, though never formally sanctioned by Vienna. The two signatories, Doppler and Schober, were almost certainly local officials rather than banking personnel.
The Jaksch/Pick reference suffix "Ib" indicates a recognized variety within the series, suggesting at least two distinct printings or paper stocks exist for this denomination.
