| Obverse description | Dark-toned notgeld note printed in black on cream paper with an ornate decorative border of scrollwork and floral corner motifs. The denomination '50' appears in bold numerals within dark oval vignettes at left and right, flanking a central cartouche bearing the value inscription 'Fünfzig Heller' in large Gothic lettering. The lower portion carries the guarantee text of the Marktgemeinde Kremsmünster, a small circular town seal vignette at center, the Bürgermeister's handwritten signature at right, and the anti-counterfeiting warning 'Die Nachahmung wird bestraft' along the bottom. |

Austrian Notgeld of this type was produced in enormous quantities between 1919 and 1921 to alleviate a severe small-coin shortage following the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. Kremsmünster's issue was printed locally by Emil Pietsch in nearby Steyr, a practical choice given wartime disruptions to the major printing houses in Vienna.
The Jaksc/Pick reference JPR0476Ia places this firmly within the first series of the Kremsmünster issue. Condition matters here — Pietsch's paper stock was not premium, and surviving examples frequently show edge wear disproportionate to their apparent age.
