Comments

Jeutendorf is a small village in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized communities, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during the acute coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system after 1918. These municipal scrip notes filled a genuine transactional gap at the local level, covering purchases too small for the inflated banknotes then circulating from Vienna.

The Jaksc reference system catalogues Austrian Notgeld far more granularly than Pick alone, and the JPR0418 series places this squarely in the 1920 Lower Austrian municipal issues — a year when many communities were printing their final Notgeld runs before centralized coin supply recovered.
