Egelsee is a small Lower Austrian village that, like hundreds of similarly modest communities, issued its own notgeld during the postwar currency crisis when small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Chwala press in Vienna's seventh district handled a considerable volume of this municipal emergency paper, and the Rohrhofer design credit here is a rare specific attribution — most village-level notgeld from this period went unsigned by their designers.

Three signatories on a 50 Heller note from a community this size suggests the full municipal council was required to authorize issue, a bureaucratic formality that actually helps authenticate surviving examples.
