Eferding's 50 Heller notgeld was issued as part of Austria's post-WWI small-change crisis, when coin metal had been systematically stripped for the war effort and municipal governments were left to paper over the gap — literally. The printer, Reklame Puka of Linz, was primarily an advertising firm, not a security printer, a circumstance common to Austrian notgeld of this period and one that gave the entire series its characteristic commercial-print aesthetic rather than anything approaching banknote formality.
Designer credit to L. Haase Jun. appears across several Upper Austrian notgeld issues of the same period, suggesting a regional freelance arrangement rather than any institutional commission.
