Königsau — now Královská, in what became Czechoslovakia after 1918 — issued this Heller note as part of the broader Austrian Notgeld wave that swept municipal governments in the immediate postwar years. The dissolution of the Habsburg Empire left small communes scrambling to cover change shortages as coins vanished from circulation almost overnight. Local authorities across the former crownlands issued their own emergency scrip with whatever printing resources were available, often with minimal oversight from any central authority.
Johann Riepl's signature as issuing official is the note's only institutional anchor. Whether Riepl was mayor or treasurer is not reliably documented.
