The Banco del Paraguay was a short-lived institution — established in 1936 and absorbed into the newly created Banco del Paraguay y Rio de la Plata in 1944, which means this 1943 issue came right at the end of its independent existence. The "Departamento Monetário" designation on the note reflects an internal administrative structure that was already being wound down when these were printed.
De La Rue printed the series in London during wartime, when the firm's production capacity was under considerable strain from British government contracts. That Paraguay secured a print run at all during 1943 speaks to De La Rue's remarkable logistical reach even mid-conflict.
