| Reverse description | Central device displays the Haitian coat of arms in high relief, depicting a royal palm flanked by cannons, cannonballs, and crossed flags with spears and anchors on a grassy ground, surmounted by the Phrygian cap of liberty. A ribbon scroll beneath the arms bears the national motto 'L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE' (Unity Makes Strength). The fineness mark '925' appears in an oval cartouche to the left of centre in the lower field. The denomination '50 GOURDES' and the date '1973' are inscribed in large raised lettering across the lower field. The national motto 'LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE' curves along the upper border, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |

Haiti issued this piece ahead of the 1974 FIFA World Cup held in West Germany — notable because Haiti actually qualified for that tournament, their only World Cup appearance to date. The squad's run through CONCACAF qualification was considered a major upset, and the government moved quickly to capitalize on it with commemorative silver issues. Haiti's lone group-stage appearance ended with a 3-1 loss to Italy, during which forward Emmanuel Sanon scored past Dino Zoff, ending the Italian goalkeeper's record scoreless streak of 1,143 international minutes.
