The Aargauische Bank was one of roughly three dozen Swiss cantonal and private banks still issuing their own notes in the 1880s, a situation the federal government was actively working to end. The Swiss National Bank was founded in 1907, and its monopoly on note issue came into full effect in 1910 — the exact year this series was retired. The Aargauische Bank did not outlast the transition; it wound down its circulation privileges rather than convert.
The twenty-seven year date span on this issue is wide enough that multiple printings almost certainly exist, though distinguishing them requires close attention to serial number ranges and signature combinations. Cataloguing within P#S108 remains coarser than the physical evidence warrants.
