Obverse description Central field features the Seal of Solomon (six-pointed star) set within a circular beaded border, with the Hijri date 1371 inscribed across the centre of the star against a finely cross-hatched background. The star is rendered in high relief with intricate geometric and floral arabesques filling the interstices between its points. An elaborate band of flowing Arabic calligraphic legend encircles the central device, separated from the outer rim by a continuous arabesque frieze. The Latin legend EMPIRE CHERIFIEN arcs along the upper rim, while the Arabic inscriptions denoting the Cherifian State and the Paris mint appear in the lower field.
