| Reverse description | A majestic lion (Panthera leo) is depicted standing in three-quarter frontal view, turned slightly to the left, its tail curling upward behind its hindquarters. The animal stands upon a rocky outcrop amid stylized vegetation, rendered with fine detail in the mane and musculature. The curved legend REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER arcs along the upper periphery of the field. The overall composition is bold and naturalistic, executed in high relief on a proof surface. |

| Additional information |
Niger gained independence from France in 1960, and through the late 1960s issued a series of gold commemorative pieces aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. This coin was produced at the Paris Mint, which retained the contract for Francophone African issues long after political ties formally severed.
KM#10 is among the scarcer pieces in Niger's early gold output, with mintages that were never publicly confirmed by the issuing authority.
