Additional information

The Krugerrand format — originally South Africa's 1967 vehicle for selling gold to private buyers during the apartheid sanctions era — has since been licensed and imitated extensively for fractional bullion issues. The Republic of the Congo's entry into this market is purely a bullion play dressed in nominal CFA francs, a denomination bearing no relationship to the coin's actual gold value or to BEAC monetary policy.
