Belain d'Esnambuc was the French colonist who established the first permanent French settlement on Martinique in 1635, making him a pointed choice for notes issued across the French Antilles and Guiana during the immediate postwar years. The Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre-Mer was itself a 1944 creation, set up by de Gaulle's provisional government to reassert monetary control over the overseas territories after the disruptions of occupation and Vichy administration.

Hourriez and Régnier were both staff engravers at the Banque de France, which handled production for the CCFOM throughout this series. The P#34 runs across a wide date range, and distinguishing issue years requires careful attention to the printed date rather than any design variation — the plates did not change.
