Obverse description At centre, the national coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo divides the date, rendered in fine detail against a polished field. The legend REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO arcs along the upper periphery, while the national motto JUSTICE PAIX TRAVAIL appears below the arms. The weight, fineness, and denomination inscriptions — 1/2 oz Au 999.9 and 50 FRANCS — are positioned in the lower portion of the field.

Additional information

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued a substantial run of bullion and semi-numismatic gold pieces under rotating wildlife themes since the early 2000s, targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — the franc itself had virtually no purchasing power in physical coin form by this period. These issues are produced under licensing arrangements with European minting houses, with the DRC's monetary authority lending its name to pieces that will never see Kinshasa.

KM#376 is one of several bear-themed issues in the series. At 15.55 g of .9999 fine gold, it corresponds to a half-troy-ounce specification.
